The potty party

When we decided to potty train our son I knew it would take a lot of effort, patience, and loads of laundry. I read a book about it, I cleared my calendar for 3 days, and I told my husband it wasn’t going to be easy every step of the way. But man, I had no idea it would truly consume my thoughts like it has.

If you like questioning your self-worth as a parent, the strength of your marriage, and your affinity for alcohol, then potty training is for you! I know that when our kids are older and have serious problems this will seem like a dream problem, but man is it ever tough to teach this new habit at times. Especially when you’re pregnant and not able to enjoy adult beverages.

Our son is making great progress and is super proud of himself, and I love the method we’re using (Oh Crap! Potty Training by Jamie Glowacki) but it definitely makes you question all your years of school when you can’t get your toddler to sit on the toilet to relieve himself without lots of deep breathing, distractions, and toilet paper.

Have you experienced the joys of potty training lately? What was your “favorite” part?
